Malla Reddy is a newsmaker who hits headlines every now and then. He is back in the news for the wrong reasons. The former minister is at the centre of land-grabbing allegations.

A group of people staged a protest at Praja Bhavan during the Praja Vani programme, accusing Malla Reddy of land grabbing. The protesters, claiming to be victims, alleged that MLA Malla Reddy used fake documents to encroach on their lands near Malla Reddy University in Dulapally.

According to the demonstrators, out of 360 plots, Malla Reddy and his associates encroached on 130 plots. They appealed to the current CM Revnath Reddy and his government to deliver justice.

The victims, holding placards and raising slogans, gathered in front of Praja Bhavan, the official residence of the Deputy Chief Minister, where the government addresses public grievances during the Praja Vani programme every Tuesday and Friday.

The banner displayed by the Sri Mallikarjuna Sagar Welfare and Development Society identified the group as ‘Malla Reddy land grabbing victims.’ During media interactions, a woman mentioned purchasing a plot in 1990 and facing obstacles from others who claimed it was their land whenever construction was attempted.

Despite years of efforts at government offices, victims expressed frustration with the lack of resolution. Last month, police filed a case against Malla Reddy and seven others for allegedly encroaching on 47 acres of tribal land at Keshavaram village in Malkajgiri. The complainant, Kethavath Bikshapathi, accused the group of illegally occupying and confiscating his ancestral land through fraud and conspiracy during the election period.

While the land was registered in Bikshapathi’s mother’s name, he claimed the accused had deceived him and his family members, transferring ownership of their 47 acres of land. Malla Reddy, however, denied the allegations and stated his intention to approach the court.

Malla Reddy owns a private university and a chain of educational institutions including engineering and medical colleges and hospitals. He enjoyed high political influence during the BRS government.
