— -- Calvin Klein’s racy ads have always created buzz, but now their newest underwear ad is under scrutiny, and model Myla Dalbesio, a size 10, is right in the thick of it.
“For fashion industry standards, straight size models are from sizes 0 to size 6, and for plus size models, they are from size 10 and up,” Cynthia Bailey, CEO of the Bailey Agency School of Fashion, told ABC News.
While Calvin Klein has never billed its “Perfectly Fit” underwear line as a plus-size product, the connection picked up Internet steam after Dalbesio, 27, talked to Elle magazine about how other brands have cast her as a plus-size model.
In a What’s Underneath Project,” Dalbesio herself addressed her place in the fashion world.
“We’re like not skinny enough to be a straight size, and we’re not large enough to be considered plus size,” the model explained.
Regardless of what others perceive her to be, Calvin Klein says she’s just right for their ad, telling the New York Times in a statement, “these images are intended to communicate that our new line is more inclusive and available in several silhouettes in an extensive range of sizes.”
