Ohanian was born to parents Anke and Chris Ohanian on April 24, 1983, in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Howard High School in Maryland followed by the University of Virginia. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in commerce and history.
CAREER
Ohanian and Steve Huffman founded Reddit in June 2005. The site was acquired by Conde Nast Publications in 2006. Reddit is a social news and media aggregation platform. It supports web content rating and discussion. Registered users can submit, comment and vote on new material. The site is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and reaches over 500 million visitors per month.
Ohanian founded Breadpig in 2007. The company produces merchandise and donates a portion of its earnings to charity. Ohanian and Garry Tan founded the venture capital fund, Initialized Capital, in 2011. They’ve made investments in startups like Instacart and Zenefits. Their first three funds generated over $160 million. Ohanian serves as an advisor for the travel search website, Hipmunk. He’s also advised and invested in a number of tech startup companies.
