Destiny 2 has a steep barrier of entry, even after the game reworked its new introductory quest line (called the New Light, the in-universe name for Guardians who recently got their powers). If you’re a kinderguardian or a New Light, the A Spark of Hope quest will probably be one of the first activities you do after you’ve finished the New Light questline on the Cosmodrome (don’t delete the Night Watch Shaw Han gave you at the end of it, because that is the only way to obtain that scout rifle with Overflow and Explosive Payload). Once you have access to the Tower, you can start this mission, which is extremely helpful for new players.

The A Spark of Hope quest will introduce you to important NPCs and give you a rundown of some mechanics in the game, but more importantly, you will also come out of it with a shiny new Exotic to play with, and one that certainly has its uses even in higher-end content. Here’s how you can complete the A Spark of Hope quest in Destiny 2.
How to complete A Spark of Hope in Destiny 2
The A Spark of Hope quest should be available from Commander Zavala, but if you don’t have the A Spark of Hope quest, you can obtain it from the Quest Archive in the Tower, under the New Light section. The Archive is to the left of the Postmaster, and you can mark it on your map to find it more quickly.
Speak to Commander Zavala and Ikora Rey
After you’ve picked up the A Spark of Hope quest, the game will task you with speaking to several NPCs. The first one is Commander Zavala, one of the leaders of the Vanguard, who guides the Titans. Zavala is located on a balcony at the far end of the Tower (just look for the bald, bulky, purple Titan sulking by the balcony by the big, moon-like celestial body that is the Traveler). You can also mark him on the Tower map to make him easier to find.
After getting acquainted with Zavala, the game will ask you to speak to Ikora Rey, who is on a gazebo by the Bazaar. Find her on your map and mark her so you know exactly where to find her.
Find Devrim Kay in the EDZ and clear out three Lost Sectors
After speaking to the two Vanguard leaders, the game will ask you to speak to Devrim Kay on the EDZ. Travel to the EDZ and land on the Trostland landing zone, which should put you right in front of an abandoned church. Devrim will be on the top floor, just above a ramp. As with Ikora and Zavala, you can mark him on your map to find him.
After speaking with Devrim, he will ask you to clear three Lost Sectors. Lost Sectors are essentially a mini area with several enemies and a boss, and they are hidden throughout all destinations. After defeating the boss, you can open the chest at the end of a Lost Sector, which counts as a clear for that particular area. You can spot Lost Sectors by looking for their symbol on the map and on the environment.
Devrim will task you with clearing the Terminus East, Widow’s Walk, and Atrium Lost Sectors. They are all located near the church: Atrium, as its name says, is located in a basement where the church’s atrium would be if it wasn’t destroyed, while Terminus East is on an abandoned subway station east of the church. Widow’s Walk, on the other hand, is located on the west side of the church, in a boarded-up area. Look for the Lost Sector symbol, then enter the door to its right and make another right once inside.
Once you’ve cleared out all three, you’ll receive three map fragments pointing to hidden treasure. Return to Devrim so he can help you decode them, leading you to the Risk/Reward quest in the Cosmodrome.
Complete Risk/Reward in the Cosmodrome
Before you can finish A Spark of Hope, you’ll need to complete Risk/Reward, a quest within a quest. The activity is available from its own node in the Cosmodrome, which you can launch at any time after obtaining the mission. The quest itself is relatively simple, though it does have a fairly tricky jumping puzzle, especially if you’re still struggling to get used to handling your class’ jump.

Return to Commander Zavala in the Tower
After you’ve finished Risk/Reward and gotten your hands on Riskrunner, return to Commander Zavala to complete the quest and get an emblem for your troubles—though Riskrunner will be the real prize for this quest line.
