HAILEY, Idaho (KBOI) - Just a week after the fire threat in Hailey diminished, mudslides kept an animal shelter from returning to normal Tuesday. The 50 cats and dogs at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley have had a traumatic few weeks with evacuations from the fire and now, a mudslide.

Kennel manager Connie Koonce said the damage to the outdoor kennels was devastating and made her sick to her stomach.

"We make sure that all the dogs are taken care of, that they stay out of the mud," she said. "We had to situate them into different kennels because there were a lot of kennels we couldn't use because of the mud."

Koonce said all the animals at the shelter are doing all right and they'll persevere.

"The dogs and the animals, they adapt, I think, better than humans do, to situations."
